Police Magazine:
High Security Handcuffs

Featured in Police Magazine, Code 4 Cuffs were created after three Florida law enforcement officers were killed by a prisoner who freed himself from his handcuffs with a hidden key. The handcuffs are triple locking, utilize standard keys, fold flat for carry, and have been awarded two US Patents. The separate yet redundant triple lock engages with the pivot point. The location and operation of the lock makes prisoner self-release even with a key extremely difficult. Code 4 Cuffs are ideal for regular duty use, prisoner transport, high-risk applications, or for any officer or agency that wants a higher security handcuff.

The Cold Hard Steel

Features

  • Code 4 Cuffs will be NIJ Certified
  • Built tough with a Stainless Steel Design
  • Code 4 Cuffs provide an immediate extra layer of security, without any additional steps in application
  • Code 4 Cuffs are applied in the same manner as traditional handcuffs, thus eliminating any costly re-trainings
  • The lock utilizes existing handcuff keys so there is no issue with interoperability
  • Slim design allows traditional carry employment in standard handcuff cases and on the duty belt
  • Code 4 Cuffs feature selective engagement: where the lock doesn't engage until the single strand is in closed position. The invented lock mechanism does not engage until the handcuff is in a closed position. This integral feature allows the single strand to be moved backwards or opened before lock engagement. This is a key feature as cuff application to resistant prisoners can prove challenging. By having selective engagement the cuff can be pushed through or pulled back without using a key before reaching the point of engagement. With resistive subjects it may be necessary to pull the cuff pack (as pushing through may not be possible due to resistance or physical barriers such as clothing or positioning to the ground).

Safety

Virtually all other law enforcement tools have improved with technology, but handcuffs have been the one exception. News of Prisoner Escapes from existing handcuffs is increasing, and videos of how to escape from existing cuffs are common. There are even instructional cutaways built for training people how to pick and shim existing cuffs.

Code 4 handcuffs enhance the safety of law enforcement officers and the public.

  • If applied from the locked position, enforcement personnel immediately have a double layer of security. This is especially crucial for repeat offenders.
  • Placement of the lock is on the top outside of the cuffs (up and away from the fingers) making prisoner manipulation and self release extremely difficult
  • The Code 4 Cuffs lock mechanism provides added security when securing strong prisoners or those with large wrists and limited lock engagement.
  • Preferred employment is with hinged cuffs.

Reliability

You can depend on Code 4 Cuffs to keep your prisoners restrained and your enforcement personnel safe.

  • Code 4 Cuffs will be NIJ Certified
  • Built tough with a Stainless Steel Design
  • May be carried in the locked or open position depending upon preference or agency protocol
  • If carried in the open position after applying the handcuffs the lock would be engaged by turning the key
  • Design is resistant to shimming and picking
  • Utilizes existing handcuff keys so there is no issue with interoperability
  • Applied in the same manner as traditional handcuffs, thus eliminating the need for costly re-trainings
  • Slim design allows traditional carry employment in standard handcuff cases and on the duty belt

TripleLock

Code 4 Cuffs feature an innovative Triple Locking Design that has been awarded two US Patents. This invented lock works in conjunction with the existing lock, creating a redundant Triple Locking handcuff. This innovative lock is located at the pivot point where the single and double strands meet, making prisoner access and self release extremely difficult.

  • Invented lock is redundant yet separate. It works in conjunction with the original design but operates separately. Once engaged along with the traditional double lock the handcuff becomes Triple Locked.
  • The lock works with the cuffs being single or double locked.
  • The invented lock will allow the handcuff to tighten but not open once engaged
  • The invented lock operates like a car door lock. It has an unlocked and a locked position. Unlike the traditional lock it does not need to be held down or held open to operate (spring tension). Instead the key is inserted and the lock mechanism is turned (mechanism rotation) to the desired position (locked or open). When releasing the prisoner the Triple Lock is opened first and then the traditional lock is opened.
